River Street Bridge & Western Avenue Bridge

This $46 million dollar accelerated bridge project consisted of the rehabilitation and repair of the River Street and Western Avenue Bridges. These bridges carry Western Avenue and River Street across the Charles River between Allston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. The rehabilitation and repair of the architecturally significant bridges bring parapets and roadway geometry up to standard and code. For the next 75 years, the bridges will act as a route of safe transportation for vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic. In addition to bridge rehabilitation and repair, a proposed lane configuration consisted of three lanes for automotive traffic and  accommodate a bicycle lane.

Turino assisted MassDOT by providing the 4D scheduling for this accelerated bridge project. The utilization of the 4D schedule bridged the gap between the planned schedule and how the project was built. This provided clear communication and project understanding, which maximized collaboration for every member of the project team. By enhancing the design, Turino was able to assist MassDOT in understanding potential risks, logistics, and issues that may arise.  The 4D schedule was an instrumental part in minimizing potential change orders and RFIs, and provided a graphical representation and sequencing of construction events before the project had even left the design phase.
